La Crosse Queen

The La Crosse Queen paddlewheeler leaves its dock
several times a day for sightseeing excursions on the Mississippi.

Near the north end of Riverside Park, three rivers meet --
the La Crosse, the Black, and the Mississippi

Land on both sides of the Mississippi's main channel here belongs to the city.  The bridge in the picture above goes to Pettibone Island, where there is another city park, a marina, and the beach.

Pettibone Island is also where I used to go ice skating,
at "the lagoon".   But enough about winter!

Well... maybe just one picture of Old Man River taking a winter nap.
(No boating allowed while he is sleeping.)

The river sleeps in winter

The road that goes over the bridge continues west from La Crosse,
over some backwaters and some marshland, and then to
the Minnesota side of the Mississippi River Valley.
