Bruton Parish Church

The brick building where Bruton Parish Church members
and visitors still attend services was dedicated in 1715.

There's a special reason the church is getting its own web page...

I was treated to a wonderful surprise during my visit.
In celebration of Williamsburg's 300th birthday,
the church was adorned everywhere with
beautiful floral arrangements.

This floor to (almost) ceiling tower of flowers,
which stood about 10 feet high, was in the small narthex.

Pews are inside a series of raised wooden compartments with doors that
closed to keep the cold out in winter.  Worshippers brought foot
heaters to put in the middle of the compartments, and seating was
in a circle around the heaters.  Some people were seated
facing the altar, while others had their backs to it.

The yellow flowers hanging from the balcony decorated
all of the balconies in the sanctuary.  Very large
arrangements are on either side of the altar.

Bouquets like this one sat on every windowsill on both sides
of the sanctuary.  Between the windows were wall candles and
swags of greenery with yellow and white flowers.
