The Civil War is sometimes called the Boys War because there were so many underage enlistees. By
some estimates, about 200,000 soldiers in the Union Army were age 15 and younger.
These statues represent the boy soldiers of the Civil War. Two young residents of Arcadia were used as models
for their faces.
The people of Arcadia recognize other familiar faces as they walk along The Avenue of Heroes. Likenesses of local veterans were used for some of the sculptures, representing wars in which they served.
